Wabbit Saison, a carrot beer that was first created a few years ago by the 4 Hearts Brewing Company as a way to reduce food waste is now back and for the first time available to purchase in a can.

Head brewer Ken Friend said the easy drinking beer was 3.8% alcohol and done in a French Belgian style.

“It has a dry earthy character with slight undertones of carrot.”

The carrots came from Kalfresh and made up 25% of the beer’s total ingredients.

You can now purchase the carrot beer on tap or over the bar in a can, canned beers are a new venture for 4 Hearts, which has produced an initial run of 100 cartons early in June.

Four of their most popular beers Kickback Red IPA, Ipswich Challenger, Limestone Pale Ale and Sunshine Lager, are the initial beers on offer as singles, four packs or cartons.

General Manager Carly Lindholm said the canned beers may be available at selected bottle shops in the future but for now they will be available at the Pumpyard and in local venues including Woodlands of Marburg and the new iPlay at Riverlink.

The carrot beer will also be available to try and buy on Saturday July 6 at the Winter Harvest Festival in Aratula during Scenic Rim Eat Local Week.
