This year Christmas in Ipswich is set to include some fantastic events, carnivals and lighting displays, we’ve rounded up a few we think you’ll love, for more events visit the Ipswich Festivals website.
Carols and Christmas songs
A number of community carols will be held across the city for families and friends to enjoy. These include:
- Raceview Community Carols Under the Big Tree on Sunday, December 3 at 141 Wildey Street, Raceview from 7pm-8.30pm.
- Christmas Under the Stars on Saturday, December 9 at the Tivoli Drive In from 3pm.
- Springfield City Group Night of Light Carols on Saturday, December 9 at Robelle Domain Parklands from 6pm.
- Redbank Plains Community Christmas Carols on Sunday, December 10 at the Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve, from 6pm.
- Whitehill Church of Christ Carols on Sunday, December 10 at 219 Whitehill Rd, Raceview from 5pm-8.30pm.
- Christmas in the Valley on Sunday, December 10 at Ripley Valley State Secondary College Sports Oval from 3.30pm-8pm.
- Shiloh Church Carols on Friday December 15 and Saturday, December 16 at Shiloh Church from 5pm-8.30pm.
- Marburg Community Carols Evening on Sunday December 17 at Marburg Community Park from 5.30pm-9.30pm.
Marburg Christmas Carnival
Experience Christmas in the country at the Marburg Christmas Carnival with face painting, an animal farm, pony rides, market stalls and more.
There will be fireworks as well as food trucks and a bar and Santa will have a free gift for children in primary school and under at 7.30pm.
Join the fun on Saturday December 2 from 4pm-8pm at 45-55 Queen Street Marburg.
Tivoli Drive-In: Home Alone
Spend the night under the stars and enjoy a festive movie at the Tivoli Drive In. Home Alone will be screened on Saturday December 2 at 7pm.
A Bush Christmas
On Friday December 8 visit the animals from the Ewe Nique Hobby Farm when they head to the Redbank Plains Library. A Bush Christmas is a free drop in event for children aged 0-5 and their carers.
Best Story Ever Christmas Presentation
City Hope Church is inviting everyone to take time out, slow down and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas with a special Christmas Presentation. This is a modern twist on a Christmas service for the whole family, with carols, singing, dancing, film, Santa and loads of fun. After there will be a twilight afterparty with food trucks, jumping castles, kids activities, live music, photo booth, and Santa photos!
The free service will be presented on Saturday December 9 at 5.30pm and Sunday December 10 at 9am and 5.30pm.
Charity Christmas luncheon
CSI Club Services Ipswich will be hosting their annual Christmas Charity Luncheon on Wednesday, December 13, beginning at 11am. Tickets are $39.90 per person with all proceeds being donated to SU Chaplaincy to support local schools. The day will include a two-course lunch, complimentary gift, raffles, lucky door prizes and a visit from Santa.
St Nicholas Precinct
This Christmas, the Nicholas Street Precinct will once again transform into an experiential atmosphere of lights, colour and magical moments as it becomes the St Nicholas Precinct this year.
Gather your family and friends to experience live entertainment, festive food and roving entertainment. Entry is free.
Come and explore the St Nicholas Precinct during the most wonderful time of the year from Friday December 8 to Sunday December 17.
The lights will be turned on from 6.30pm-9.30pm nightly.
Ipswich Christmas Lights Bus Tours
The Ipswich Christmas Lights Tours are back this year on December 15 and 16. View a selection of the best displays from this year’s Christmas Lights competition on an air-conditioned coach and enjoy a light supper with entertainment and surprise visitors before you head off on the magical adventure.

It’s a Wonderful Life
See one of the most inspirational and loved Christmas stories, It’s a Wonderful Life at Firestation 101, from Friday December 8 to Sunday December 10 and Friday December 15 until Sunday December 17.
Set in a 1940s recording studio, this live radio play is the warm hug we can’t wait to give our loved ones. Be transported to the time when the magic of radio dramas brought family and friends together.
Based on the story, “The Greatest Gift”, this Christmas classic is retold as a live 1940’s radio broadcast where you become our live studio audience! Complete with Foley sound effects, old time jingles and an ensemble cast that brings dozens of characters to life.

Christmas wreath workshop
In this workshop at The Soul Nook Collective be taught how to create your very own 30cm wreath with Australian dried flowers as Boho Posies take you through the entire process. You’ll enjoy a glass of bubbles on arrival and a grazing platter. After your class, browse the boutique or enjoy a coffee.

Nutcracker Hunt and Jingle Jail
Arttime Supplies and Fine Art Gallery have been busy decorating the store for Christmas and have a fun competition coming up. From 8 to 30 December head in store to win one of five $20 gift vouchers by counting the hidden nutcrackers. You can also win a candy cane by catching an elf on the loose.
They are hosting Christmas exhibition called Gifted in the Gallery, a Christmas wonderland filled with handmade art and gifts by gallery guild members which will run from 8 December to 19 December.
Sip ‘n’ Dip Christmas craft
This year you learn to decorate three Christmas cupcakes during the holidays, paint a Christmas Elf or learn to paint a Christmas Tree. The cupcakes class is running on December 13, the Elf paint class on December 19 and the Christmas Tree paint class on December 20.
Christmas puppet show
Award-winning puppeteer David Hamilton, is coming to the Ewe Nique Hobby Farm on Sunday December 17 and bringing his marionettes for a special show this Christmas.
The show is a combination of song, music, fun, humour and puppetry. After the show you can meet Santa (10.15am) and feed the farm animals. There will also be food and drinks available on the day. Gates open at 8.30am and the show starts at 9.30am.
Christmas high tea in the grove
Enjoy sparkling wine, a high tea of sweet and savory items and over 20 varieties of single estate tea under the olive trees at the Watercress Creek Olive and Lime Farm. The event will run for two hours with soft music in the open garden and each participant will receive a Christmas gift to take home. More information here.
Rosewood Christmas Festival
Join in the fun of the Rosewood Christmas Festival with market stalls, Christmas carols, food, entertainment and more!
Bring the whole family down on Friday December 15 from 5pm-8.30pm to the Rosewood Showgrounds.
A night of Joy and Jingles
Enjoy a magical evening filled with laughter, joy and jingles on Wednesday December 13! There will be live entertainment from the Cambrian Youth Choir and Brown Sugar, a visit from Santa and the Brothers Mega Christmas Raffle.
The Nutcracker Ballet
See the much loved Christmas Eve story The Nutcracker performed live on Main St at Orion Springfield Central for free on Saturday December 23 at 3.30pm and 6pm. There will also be pre-show entertainment including carols, dance performances and story time with Mrs Claus.
