The great outdoors
My favourite photography locations in Ipswich
Grab your keys, we’re going for a drive! Where, you ask? Ipswich! The city has lots of close road-tripping adventures so grab your camera and lets go check out some favourite photography spots!
South Ripley
This would have to be my favourite spot in Ipswich to take photos. Being so close to home and having an abundance of cool things to take photos of, I have to rate this number one. Wildlife out there is awesome! There are kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos and I’ve even seen a wild peacock. Did I mention the cows that are extremely photogenic? Sunrise and sunset in Ripley always delivers and for the night shooters there is Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate to the west and White Rock-Spring Mountain to the east for foreground elements for astrophotography.
Willowbank and Mutdapilly
Just west of Ipswich CBD is Willowbank and Mutdapilly. Home of the world famous Motorsport precinct this is a great area for landscape and motorsport photography, if you time your visit right you could photograph some of the fastest cars on the planet at the drag strip or Queensland Raceway. There’s also the old RAAF planes out that way that always get some attention from young and old. Did I mention kangaroos?
Nerima Japanese Gardens – Ipswich CBD
Hard to ignore this place as it’s right in the centre of Ipswich CBD. The Nerima Gardens is a great place to get snap happy with stunning Japanese styled gardens and a beautiful water feature to boot. Plenty of water dragons and lazy turtles around for the wildlife photographer. Perfect place to relax and unwind and just enjoy this peaceful tranquil area once the snap happy finger gets sore. Free to enter and open 6 days a week. Extra bonus points for being right next to the Queens Park Ipswich Nature Centre, definitely well worth a visit also!
Kholo Gardens
Another beautiful garden not far from Ipswich CBD is the Kholo Gardens. Choose from one of five trails including walks through sub-tropical rainforest and river walks over this 40 hectare park, this place is ideal for the nature photographer. Plenty of birds to photograph for the bird lovers. History buffs will love this place too as it has an extensive history and is also a heritage listed coal mining site. A great place to bring the family and have a BBQ lunch too!
