It’s interesting how often I get asked about my ideal date night in Ipswich, and there are always two options: what I want to do, and what my partner wants to do. We both have similar interests, so whatever we end up doing, we’ll enjoy, but we definitely have our own favourites when it comes to what to do on date night.
So, it’s a Saturday, and you’re scheduled for a date night.
Charlie’s pick for a perfect night out…
Begin your evening with your favourite person at one of Ipswich’s top bars. Stoney Creek Brewing Co is a wonderful place to start the night. Wander through their charming heritage venue, or share a tasting of Stoney Creek’s new concept flavours. Just a short stroll away, you’ll find the enchanting wine bar, Monte Lane. It’s youthful and full of charm, much like the person you’re with. For a truly romantic experience, book a table in the laneway where the atmosphere is intimate, especially when paired with a glass of fine wine.
As the night progresses, it’s time to book an Uber, or if the weather is kind, enjoy a leisurely walk over the river to Limelight Cinemas for a delightful dinner while watching one of the latest movies. Limelight offers excellent value without compromising on quality. Choose from a grand selection of movies at The Lounge, with dinner arriving during the film. Our top pick is a burger from Ruby Chews; it’s a choice you won’t regret. Now, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie. For an added touch of luxury, order a cocktail to be delivered straight to your seat.
For me, it’s the same but different.
We are so fortunate to have some of the best live shows come to Ipswich, and I absolutely love a night at the theatre. Before you immerse yourself in a captivating orchestra, laugh at a fantastic comedy, or be dazzled by a theatre production, tapas at The Rusty Nail is a must. Their ever-changing menu always offers something delightful for everyone. Make the evening more exciting by ordering cocktails for each other to see how well you know each other’s tastes.
Whether it’s a charming local art show at Studio 188 or a grand national production of a hit musical at The Civic Centre, you’re in for a memorable experience. Sharing a show with your special someone is not only a delightful night out, it also supports the thriving arts culture we have in the Ipswich region.
No matter who’s planning the date night, Gelatissimo in Nicholas St Precinct stays open late on weekends.
This means there’s plenty of time to hold hands and savour an ice cream together. Make sure to sample a few flavours before settling on your favourite—you’ll enjoy it even more! While relaxing around Tulmur Place, take a moment to admire the illuminated art above Gelatissimo and across the Council building. This adds a divine finishing touch to an already enchanting evening with your significant other.
