Chai House Cafe at Silkstone not only brings Campos Coffee and a cabinet full of cafe favourites to the heritage city, but an interesting point of difference in the menu.
Thanks to chef Sudesh, whose homeland is Nepal, the menu offers many delicious options you won’t find anywhere else, such as a lightly spiced rice pudding that arrives with a drizzled honey glaze and fresh berries. Cardamom, cloves and star anise give the pudding its spicy lilt and it’s already become a firm hit with locals.
Also worth trying are the golden corn and zucchini fritters served with a bright pumpkin puree and perfectly poached eggs, and the Nepalese gyoza-like dumplings listed as Momos on this menu. Another popular choice is the Mt Everest Fried Rice with its wonderful flavour combinations – this dish can be ordered vegan, without the egg on top.
As the name suggests, there is a range of chai teas on offer, alongside the coffee list. The decor is bright and modern with both indoor and outdoor seating available.
There’s a complete list of AUD10 lunch offers available and watch out for regular specials such as the recent hearty Potato and Nutrela dish.
