Ipswich’s famous Pumpyard brewery site has a new brand over the doorway and a new line-up of delicious beers on offer. Say g’day to Stony Creek Brewing Co.

Stony Creek sprang to life in 2020 when Jack Anderson began brewing with his father at their Townson property in the Lockyer’s Mulgowie Valley.

Jack’s parents, Deryk and Karen, had spent a few years in Roanoake, Virginia in the US, an area liberally sprinkled with small breweries.

Meanwhile Jack developed a fascination for the science involved in the beer making process and is currently completing a Diploma of Brew Science with the Institute of Brewing in London.

“When I realised there was such a lot of a science behind it, that kind of drew me in,” Jack said.

The beer began flowing and when the opportunity came along to take on the brewery site in Ipswich the family jumped at it.

They look forward to introducing their diverse range of beers, all made on site – including a Mulgowie Mud oatmeal stout, an IPA, lager and a Raspberry Donut Sour – as well as regular Friday night entertainment and a smashing menu.

A gluten-free ginger beer is about to be released along with hard seltzers that will also be gluten-free.

Jack said the response so far from the Ipswich community had been heartening.

“We love Ipswich, it has a great community vibe and everyone here is happy and social… I know all my neighbours, it’s that kind of place.”

Stony Creek Brewing Co at the old Pumpyard, 88 Limestone St, Ipswich, is open noon-9pm Wednesday and Thursday, noon- 10pm Friday and Saturday and Sundays from 11.30-5pm.
